Beginner IV Sedation Dentist Course


Friday 23rd - Saturday 24th February 2018
Venue The Raglan Suite, Harrogate, North Yorkshire

The beginner course is divided into 2 stages:
Stage 1:
2 Day theory course £995
This covers:
  • GDC & national Guidelines including new 2015 Guidelines
  • Dental anxiety aetiology and management
  • Dentist & nurse role in sedation
  • Prescribing appropriate sedation techniques
  • Human physiology relating to sedation
  • Anatomy of cardiovascular system
  • Pharmacology of sedative drugs
  • Patient assessment
  • Intravenous cannulation
  • Consent for sedation
  • Administration of IV sedatives
  • Patient monitoring
  • Note taking
  • CQC issues
  • Avoiding and managing problems
  • Medical issues affecting sedation
  • Medical emergencies and sedation
  • 2 days are together (Friday, Saturday) and location will be Harrogate

Stage 2:
20 clinically assessed cases carried out under close supervision
This involves:
  • A minimum of 5 IV sedation assessments
  • A minimum of 20 IV sedation cases
  • one to one teaching
  • clinical assessment of your clinical practice
  • certification of competency upon completion which allows you to practice IV sedation independently and legally
  • Cases can be completed in your own practice whereby you collect the patient fees. This can cover some or all of the costs of the course
  • We suggest 4 days of clinical cases (5 per day) which can be spread out to suit you and your progress
  • We will also provide your sedation nursing staff with clinical training and certification at no extra cost (providing they have already attended one of our training courses)
  • Our fee to attend your clinic for the clinical stages is £2000 per day making a total cost of £8000 for the clinical assessment component.
  • You can alternatively ask a suitably experienced and trained colleague to be your supervisor as long as they apply to us and we approve them. We would expect that any supervisor has undertaken either our course or equivalent and has documented proof of experience.
